Middle Creek's Avery Scoggins named Gatorade Player of the Year in volleyball

Scoggins is a 6-foot setter for the Mustangs. As a senior this fall, she helped Middle Creek to a 26-1 overall record and the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state title.

Middle Creek senior Avery Scoggins has been named the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year for the 2023 volleyball season.

Scoggins is a 6-foot setter for the Mustangs. As a senior this fall, she helped Middle Creek to a 26-1 overall record and the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A state title. 

Middle Creek swept Cox Mill in straight sets to win the state championship. Scoggins was named the most valuable player of the championship match after posting 33 assists.

As a senior, Scoggins recorded 919 total assists, 218 digs, and 110 kills. She added 54 service aces and 45 blocks, all while posting a .455 kill percentage and a .355 hitting percentage. Scoggins was named a Second Team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Scoggins was also named to the HighSchoolOT All-State Team and the N.C. Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Team.

In the classroom, Scoggins holds a 4.34 weighted grade point average. She has signed to play volleyball at the University of Arizona this fall.
