Crashes causing major delays around the Triangle this morning

Multiple crashes on Tuesday were causing delays around the Triangle during the morning commute, including major back-ups on U.S. Highway 401, Capital Boulevard and Interstate 40.

Crash on US 70 Business in Garner

At 8:30 a.m. two eastbound lanes of U.S. 70 Business at Auburn-Knightdale Road were blocked leaving Garner and headed into Clayton, with delays up to 8 minutes. The westbound lanes were moving freely.

Huge delays on I-40 between Raleigh and Garner

Before 8 a.m. a crash on I-40 closed three westbound lanes near the I-440 split and Jones Sausage Road exit, at one point causing delays of over 30 minutes. By 8:30 a.m. conditions were improving, with lanes reopened and delays around 5 minutes.

Two crashes block traffic all directions in Wake Forest, Rolesville areas

Two separate crashes were blocking traffic in all directions along Forestville Road near Foundation Drive in Wake Forest.

The crashes involved a total of four vehicles, and there were injuries.

Lingering delays on US-401 and Capital Boulevard

Another crash was cleared, but still causing delays after initially blocking all but one lane of southbound US-401 near I-540.

Traffic delays of more than 20 minutes were being caused by the crash as of 7 a.m.

At least one person was injured in this crash.

By 7:15 a.m., the crash had been cleared and lanes reopened; however, delays of at least 16 minutes were still being reported.

Drivers coming from the Rolesville area could use Burlington Mills Road to get out to Capital Blvd., which could save you up to 12 minutes. However, back-ups began forming on Capital Boulevard as well, as of 7:15 a.m. – likely due to so many people taking the alternate route.
