Meredith College announced Wednesday that Aimee W. Sapp will serve as its ninth president.

Sapp has more than 25 years of higher education experience at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, where she's held the chief academic officer position since 2013.

“Since its inception, Meredith has provided women with a transformative education," she said. “The next president must keep an eye on the past to celebrate the richness of all that the college has been over 130 years. Equally so, the president must confidently embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future, being mindful of what the college can become, and convinced that our best days are still ahead.

“I am inspired by Meredith College’s commitment to women’s education, academic excellence, and a diverse and inclusive community."

Sapp has a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Missouri, a master’s degree in speech communication from the University of Northern Colorado and a bachelor of science in sociology from William Woods College.

Sapp will succeed President Jo Allen, who is retiring after 13 years at the helm. A member of the class of 1980, Allen was the first alumnae to serve as Meredith’s president.

"I am excited for Meredith College as we embrace this next pivotal chapter, excited for the fresh perspectives and visionary leadership that our ninth president will bring," Allen said. "The Meredith College legacy is strong, and I am confident that Meredith’s next president, buoyed by the support of all of you, will carry this legacy forward with honor, innovation, and an enduring commitment to our core values."
