Men charged with vandalizing mailboxes, church property

Two men face more than a dozen charges after a vandalism spree that damaged mailboxes and church property in Nash County.

Owen Bernice Smith, 22, of 6849 Colby Road in Elm City, and Evan Marquis Tyler, 23, of 4916 Rolling Rock Road in Rocky Mount, were each charged with 11 counts of damage to personal property and one count each of damage to real property and resisting a public officer.

Nash County investigators said that 10 mailboxes in the Hunter Ridge subdivision were damaged, a four-wheeler was rammed into a shed belonging to Union Missionary Baptist Church and a window of a van belonging to the church was broken.

Smith was placed under a $500 bond, while Tyler has been released.
