Man finds Fayetteville woman's remains

Fayetteville police on Friday said that a medical examiner has positively identified the remains found off Gregory Street as those of Denika Lashalle Jones, a 26-year-old woman who went missing May 15.

Police searched for Jones for more than a week after finding her boyfriend dead inside the home that they shared on Gardenia Avenue.

Tommy Loren Webb, 35, had been shot several times, police said, and Jones' cellphone and personal belongings were left inside the home. Jose Reyes found Jones' remains Wednesday while walking through the woods off Gregory Street.

Frederick Smith, Jones' father, said on Thursday that her death was a huge blow to the family.

Investigators haven't made any arrests in the case, but said they have interviewed several persons of interest.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1421 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
