The town of Benson announced Wednesday the passing of Mayor Jerry Medlin at the age of 87.
Medlin had recently been diagnosed with cancer.

In a statement, the town of Benson expressed their sadness, remembering him as a pillar of the community.
"He was tall in stature with a booming voice and big smile," the statement said.
Medlin was deeply involved in nearly every aspect of the town’s activities over the years, first serving as a commissioner and later as mayor, a role he was elected to in 2017 and re-elected in 2019, 2021 and 2023.
"He will be missed immensely in this community that he so passionately served," the town added.
