Letterland characters will visit Pullen Park on May 14

Letterland returns to Raleigh's Pullen Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 6.

Letterland, a British import, brings letters to life by turning them into colorful characters, each with their own personality and stories that go along with their sounds, according to a press release.

Wake County elementary schools and many preschool programs use the phonics program as part of their literacy instruction. (Letterland has played a big role in my seven-year-old's life for the past few years).

Letterland Adventure Day is free. Some of the characters will be represented as costumed characters. Others as wooden cut outs. A Letterland parade is planned.

Kids can meet some of the characters, including Firefighter Fred with a real fire engine, Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben and Clever Cat. They also can ride on Clever Cat's carousel, Bouncy Ben's boats and Talking Tess's train; have their face painted with Impy Ink; make noise with Noisy Nick. Pullen Place Cafe will offer a  special Munching Mike’s Menu.

Pullen Park is at 408 Ashe Ave., Raleigh. This is a free, drop-in event ($1 tickets required for the amuseument rides). Registration is not required.
