Marbles launches monthly low-sensory movie series

The movies are intended for children with sensory issues, young children and their families.

Marbles Kids Museum's IMAX theater is launching a monthly series of movies designed for kids with sensory issues or young children, who might not enjoy the typical dark theater and loud sounds from the usual movie-going experience.

The Lights Up, Sound Down series starts this Saturday with a 10 a.m. viewing of "Zootopia 3D." The cost is $7 per person.

It continues at 10 a.m., April 23, with "The Jungle Book 3D." Tickets also are $7 for that showing. At 10 a.m., May 14, the 40-minute documentary, "A Beautiful Planet," is scheduled. At 10 a.m., July 16, it's the documentary, "National Parks Adventure 3D." Tickets are $2 per person for the documentaries.

That's the schedule at the moment, though it is subject to change.

These are great screenings for kids who might have difficulties a loud, darkened theater. They also are great for kids who might have trouble staying sitting for a long period of time. And, it could make an ideal first movie experience for little ones.

AMC Southpoint 17 at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham also offers a low-sensory movie series.
