Man shot while attempting to rob person in Durham parking lot

A 27-year-old man was killed while attempting to rob another man on Friday.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 3600 block of North Duke Street.

Police said Marquise Edwards, 27, of Charleston, S.C., allegedly tried to rob the man at gunpoint. The man shot Edwards in self-defense.

Edwards was taken to a hospital, where he died.

No charges have been filed and the case remains under investigation.
