Man killed in Wake County shooting Friday night

Months after a Wendell man was charged with first-degree murder in his stepfather's death, search warrants obtained by WRAL News provide new details about what may have led to the Dec. 1 shooting.

After 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, deputies with the Wake County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at a home in the 7300 block of Campsite Drive.

Javon Sherice Ellison, 47, was found in the dining room with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He had been shot several times, according to a search warrant, and died from his injuries at the hospital.

His stepson, Christopher Lamont Galbreath, 30, was charged with murder. Galbreath was being held at the Wake County Detention Center without bond.

New search warrants obtained April 1 describe the scene from December, including "several bullet casings" found in the street outside the home "as well as a blood trail leading from the street, down the driveway and into the residence."

According to search warrants, Ellison's wife went missing the day before the shooting. The documents allege the two were arguing over finances, and Ellison's wife left home.

Ellison's wife was located and interviewed following the shooting. According to the search warrant, she alleges her son and husband were in a fight, and gunshots were heard.

A search warrant for a Facebook account belonging to Galbreath revealed private conversations with his sister, who "admitted to being at the scene of the shooting and left shortly after the shooting occurred."

The sister was also interviewed, telling law enforcement she left the home before the shooting when "everyone was calm and no one was arguing."

She said her brother asked her to come back to the house "because something happened with her mother."

According to the sister, she returned home and saw everybody in the front yard. She said she heard Galbreath and his stepfather arguing "then heard shots ring out," and she ran to take cover behind her mother's car in the driveway.
