Man shot in head during Fayetteville drive-by dies

A man was in critical condition Wednesday after a drive-by shooting in Fayetteville.

A 34-year-old man died Thursday morning after being shot in the head on Wednesday evening.

Fayetteville police said Jason McKnight was walking along the 1300 block of Turnpike Road at about 5:45 p.m. when an unknown vehicle pulled up next to him and began shooting.

“He pulled up in a vehicle and motioned for the victim to come over to them, at which point, a firearm was fired from the vehicle,” said Sgt. Shawn Strepay with the Fayetteville Police Department.

McKnight was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

No arrests have been made.
