A Rocky Mount man told police that he was shot in the back early Sunday while walking through the parking lot of a Texaco station, at 1336 Raleigh Road.

Bob Lankford told police that around 3:30 a.m., someone in a blue Chevrolet Caprice with chrome rims shot at him four or five times. Lankford was struck once in the upper left back.

Lankford was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. His condition was stable Monday.

Officers canvassed the area but did not locate any suspects.

Police said Lankford could not identify the shooter or provide more information yet.
