An inmate who escaped from the Wayne County Detention Center was caught by Morrisville police on Thursday afternoon around 4:50 p.m.

Michael Wayne Glover, 33, was arrested after a caller recognized him from a WRAL-TV report and called law enforcement.

Glover escaped around 11 a.m. in a food services van from the Wayne County Detention Services in Goldsboro. The van says "Trinity Services" on the side.

Later in the afternoon, Selma Police confirmed they located the stolen van off of Twin Ponds Road.

Later that day, Glover switched vehicles and stole a gray Ford Fusion.

"I was just in shock — just complete shock," said the man whose car was stolen.

The man, who asked not to be identified by WRAL News, said he was grabbing a drink at a Clayton gas station on U.S. Highway 70 and Moore Street and left his car running. When he came outside, he said his car was gone.

"Soon as police got [to the gas station,] they showed a few pictures and someone had identified him," the man said.

Officials say as of 2 p.m., Michael Glover was last spotted in Clayton, heading into Wake County. He is believed to have switched vehicles. People should be on the lookout for either a brown or silver Ford Fusion with license plate HHK1455.

Glover then turned up more than 20 miles away at an Exxon gas station at Chapel Hill Road and Airport Boulevard.

"We responded there with several officers, and when he came out the store, he was taken into custody without any incident," said Morrisville Police Chief Pete Acosta.

The clerk at the Exxon station told WRAL News that Glover's picture popped up on a TV while he was inside the store. The clerk said someone outside had also recognized Glover and called police.

Morrisville police said he will be taken to the Wake County Detention Center and returned to Wayne County on Friday.
