Man on riding lawnmower hit by car near Fayetteville

A man on a riding lawn mower was struck by a car late Tuesday night in Cumberland County.

The crash occurred before 11 p.m., closing the southbound lanes of N.C. Highway 87 near Scallywag Road near Fayetteville.

Fire officials told WRAL News the man was being taken to a hospital. His condition was not provided.

The crash occurred in a 55 mph zone, and the riding mower was not equipped with lights.

There was no indication the driver would be charged.
