Man arrested in connection with deadly shooting at Rocky Mount motel

A man has turned himself in to police after a deadly shooting at a Rocky Mount motel this past weekend.

On Wednesday, 46-year-old Jessie Earl Johnson Jr. turned himself into the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Sunday at 1:04 a.m., the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to reports of shots being fired at Hal Orr's Inn 2420 N. Wesleyan Blvd.

Police believe a fight broke out at the inn, which ended with a man being shot. The victim, 39-year-old Mack Jenkins, was taken to a house in the 400 block of Saint Paul Street, where emergency medical services were provided. Unfortunately, Jenkins was pronounced dead.

Johnson is being held without bond. The investigation is ongoing.
