Man killed in head-on crash on NC 87 south of Fayetteville

A man died and a woman was taken to the hospital Thursday after a head-on crash on N.C. Highway 87 at Smith Road, south of Fayetteville.

The southbound lanes of N.C. 87 were closed before 4:30 a.m. near the Tractor Supply Company, about 10 minutes from the Fayetteville Regional Airport.

Two vehicles crashed head on. One driver died at the scene, and a woman in the other car was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
