Man in critical condition after being shot in Southern Pines

A man was in critical condition after being shot twice in Southern Pines on Friday night.

The shooting happened at 6:30 p.m. on Shaw Avenue in the Brookside Apartment Complex, according to B.J. Goodridge with the Sandhills Sentinel. The man, who officials said is 23, was transported by EMS to a ball field, where a helicopter from UNC Hospitals airlifted him to the UNC Hospitals Trauma Center in Chapel Hill.

Southern Pines Police immediately locked down the area of the shooting. No one was allowed to enter or exit the complex as officials investigated.
