Man hospitalized after Durham house fire

A Durham man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after experiencing chest pains while watching his home burn, firefighters said.

The man, whose name was not released, was the only person home at 812 Alpha Drive when the fire started. He was not injured in the blaze.

Firefighters believe the fire started in the laundry room, but the cause of the fire has not been established.

While the homeowner stood outside watching the firefighters work, he had chest pains. He was taken to Duke Hospital where he was conscious and alert, authorities said.
