A man was badly injured Thursday in a hit-and-run, and Durham police are searching for the person who they believe carjacked him and sped away,

Around 9 a.m., officers with the Durham Police Department responded to the parking lot outside a Staples located at 3600 North Duke St. A man who police say was struck by his own car was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A witness reported seeing a small blue car fleeing the scene.

The blue car was involved in a crash minutes later in the 500 block of Liberty St., according to police. The car crashed into a power pole, causing a power outage in the area.

The car was empty when officers arrived at the crash, and police said it belonged to the man hit on North Duke Street.

Police are sharing a photo of the victim's car in hopes of finding new information or identifying a suspect.

People can call Investigator Blake at 919-560-4440, ext. 29282, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
