Man gets 12-18 years in prison for role in 2014 Fuquay-Varina murders

A man charged in connection with the 2014 murders of two people in Fuquay-Varina pleaded guilty on Thursday to a lesser charge in exchange for cooperating with authorities.

A man charged in connection with the 2014 murders of two people in Fuquay-Varina pleaded guilty on Thursday to a lesser charge in exchange for cooperating with authorities.

Kevin Britt previously pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder in connection to the deaths of Arthur Lee Brown, 78, and David Eugene McKoy, 66. Britt was one of three men charged in the case:

  • Gregory Crawford pleaded guilty in May 2016 to charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and burglary in connection with the slayings. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
  • Donovan Richardson was sentenced on Wednesday to life in prison. Britt testified against Richardson during his trial.

Britt was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and burglary.

A judge on Thursday sentenced Britt to 12 to 18 years in prison.
