A woman was accidentally shot Saturday night at a Longhorn Steakhouse in Goldsboro.

At 6:47 p.m., Goldsboro police were dispatched to the Longhorn Steakhouse at 609 N. Berkeley Blvd. in reference to a shot being fired inside the restaurant.

Officers were told that a man dropped a handgun as he was leaving the bar area. When the gun hit the floor, it discharged and hit a woman who was sitting at a nearby table.

Fragments from the discharged bullet struck the woman in the leg. She was treated by Wayne County EMS on-scene for minor injuries, but the victim elected not to go to the hospital.

The man who dropped the gun picked it up and fled the restaurant. Goldsboro police and Wayne County deputies have not been able to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described as a short man wearing all black.

Police said it appears that this is an incident involving the mishandling of a firearm and that there was no deliberate assault. There is no continuing threat to the community, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation.
