Man dies after hitting pier, ejection in Rocky Mount boating crash

A Saturday boating crash killed a 73-year-old man in Rocky Mount.

The crash happened around 2:40 p.m. Saturday in the Tar River Reservoir.

Police said a boat operated by John McManus struck a pier, and he was ejected from it.

McManus died at the Vidant Medical Center, according to a news release from Rocky Mount police.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is the lead agency investigating this crash.
