A Wake County man was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder in connection with a slaying in Apex in January.

Jamie Antwon Mitchell, 29, was expected to be sentenced Friday.

Mitchell was convicted of the shooting death of Demetric Farrar Horton in Apex on Jan. 21. He was arrested by U.S. marshals in Gloversville, N.Y., a few days later.

In 1997, Mitchell was charged with a the slayings of two migrant workers in Morrisville. He later accepted a plea deal, was convicted of armed robbery and was placed on probation.
