Man charged with assault after shooting at Dollar General

Paul Nicholson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury.

A man faces assault charges in connection with a shooting at a Dollar General store on Friday afternoon that left one person injured.

Rocky Mount police responded to a shooting at 1038 W. Raleigh Blvd.

Upon arrival, police found 27-year-old Tyshawn Foster inside the store with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Foster was transported to UNC Nash for treatment and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say 32-year-old Paul Nicholson and Foster were involved in an altercation inside the store.

Nicholson shot Foster with a handgun during the fight before fleeing the scene.

Nicholson later surrendered to police and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

He was served with his warrants and received a $50,000 secured bond.

Nicholson is currently out on bond.
