Man charged after 125 mph Raleigh motorcycle chase

A motorcyclist led troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a high-speed chase Saturday evening.

According to the Highway Patrol, the chase started on Falls of Neuse Road near Interstate-540 when an officer with the Raleigh Police Department spotted a motorcyclist exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour.

When the officer was unable to stop the motorcycle, a pursuit ensued. The motorcyclist, Alton Jones, reached speeds of 125 miles per hour before he made a quick stop and side-swiped the officer's patrol car.

The officer was not injured in the chase, but Jones was transported to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries. The patrol car suffered minor damages.

According to the Highway Patrol, Jones has been charged with felony speed to elude, careless and reckless driving, driving 125 miles per hour in a 70 miles per hour zone, red light violation and improper passing.
