Man arrested, faces attempted murder charge in Fayetteville shooting

A man in Fayetteville is charged with attempted murder after police said he shot another man in the abdomen.

Fayetteville police arrested a man Tuesday suspected of shooting another man.

Officers responded at 9:13 a.m. Tuesday to Briar Circle for reports of a shooting. They found a man in the grass with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Authorities took him to an area hospital for treatment.

Police said Aalias Ellis ran from the scene before officers arrived. However, police said he returned to Briar Circle afterward.

Ellis, 22, of Fayetteville, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities are holding Ellis at the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond for the attempted first-degree murder charge and a $50,000 secured bond for the other charges.
