Man arrested, charged with murder of woman fatally shot in driveway on Pettigrew Street
An arrest has been made in the shooting of 33-year-old Monica Renee Williams, a mother of two children who was shot in a driveway on South Pettigrew Street in Raleigh.
Teddy Cozart was arrested Friday in connection to the February shooting. Police said they arrested him on Poole Road in Raleigh. He has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He had previous felonies.
Williams was fatally shot in February on the 100 block of South Pettigrew Street just after 2 p.m.
Officers found Monica Renee Williams in a friend's driveway with serious injuries. She was taken to WakeMed, where she died, police said.
Chris Thomas, who had known Williams for about three years, said he heard a commotion outside his home on South Pettigrew Street and then heard gunshots.
“It’s a terrible thing,” Thomas said.
Thomas called 911 and tried to comfort Williams until the ambulance arrived, he said.
Thomas thought Williams would make it — she was a fighter, he said.
“She was one-of-a-kind,” Thomas said. “I mean, she did little things to upset people, but inside, she was a wonderful person.”
Williams was a mother of two children.
