Man arrested after standoff, domestic dispute

Fayetteville police arrested a man who barricaded himself into a Cambridge Arms apartment during a domestic dispute early Saturday.

Officers arrived at apartment 13-D, near McPherson Church and Morganton roads, after a domestic-related 911 call shortly before 3 a.m.

Officers said they saw a man and woman fighting outside the apartment, but the two ran back into the apartment and locked the doors. Police called in the Emergency Response Team and hostage negotiator after unsuccessful attempts to contact the man and woman.

Officers evacuated residents of adjoining apartments as a precaution.

After further unsuccessful attempts at communication, ERT members entered the apartment around 6:30 a.m., police said.

Robert Harold Tyler, 26, surrendered without incident, while three other people in the apartment – Katherine Renee Holman, 32, and her two young children – were unharmed.

No weapons were found in the apartment.

Police said they would charge Tyler with assault on a female.

Tyler got out of prison in early October after serving three months for violating his probation for stalking and assault on a female in Cumberland County in 2006, according to state Department of Correction records. He was also convicted of domestic criminal trespassing in 2007.
