Police: Suspect arrested after armed robbery, chase

Morrisville police have arrested and charged a man with armed robbery after a police pursuit finished with the suspect's vehicle crashing into the woods.

Kevin Blanding, 48, of Durham, has been charged with armed robbery, felony fleeing to elude and possession of stolen property. His first court date is Feb. 5.

Police said they responded to an armed robbery call at a Food Lion at 3609 Davis Drive shortly before 3 p.m. They located an SUV matching the description of the getaway vehicle and engaged in a pursuit that ended with the SUV crashing into a ditch near the intersection of N.C. Highway 55 and Cornwallis Road in Durham.

There were no injuries.

According to an application for a warrant to search the 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, a plastic Food Lion bag filled with cash fell to the ground when police pulled Blanding from the vehicle.

Police seized a black mask, a pair of black gloves, a black ball cap, black and gray hooded sweatshirts, a cellphone and other items from the SUV, according to the search warrant.
