Man, 18, charged in Cary break-in spree

Cary police arrested an 18-year-old man Thursday in connection with a series of break-ins at businesses and a church preschool in the town's downtown area.

Michael William Bingham, of South West Street, faces six counts of felony breaking and entering and two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle.

Investigators said they believe that between March 15 and 20, Bingham entered unlocked vehicles, businesses and a storage shed along East Chatham Street. Items including stereo equipment, satellite radios, GPS units, clothing and sports equipment were stolen, police said.

Break-ins occurred at Salon de Belleza Jessia, Sports and Fashions, Methodist Children's Center, Gurkan Downtown Auto Repair and Rich's Style Shop.

Bingham was placed in the Wake County jail. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 14 years in prison.
