Dragonwing girlgear, the maker of athletic underwear for sporty tween and teen girls, is one of a dozen local businesses featured in our Made by Mom Gift Guide this year.

MaryAnne Gucciardi launched the business after she had trouble finding sports base-layers for her athletic daughter.

"Things were too mature, didn't fit well or weren’t high performance," she told me for an earlier Q&A. "Sometimes, we ended up in the boy’s department, sending the subliminal message that being athletic was masculine."

Gucciardi made a small patch of sports camis and, eventually, launched the business in July 2013. Today, her products are sold online. She's also in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign, an online fundraising campaign, to create a new racerback cami. At last check, the campaign had raised about $8,500 towards its $18,600 goal.

Gucciardi is offering a 15 percent discount off all items on her website to Go Ask Mom readers. There is no limit. Just use the code "GoAskMom" on Dragonwing's website to get your discount! Her items - including bras, leggings, camis, headbands and more, would make for a great gift for sporty girls out there.
