Luxury apartments, restaurant check into Prince Charles Hotel

The new owners of the Prince Charles Hotel are ready to bring the historic building back to life after working out the tax breaks needed for the $15 million project.

The plan is to convert the building into modern apartments without losing the historic charm of the original hotel.

Jordan Jones, the project manager for the restoration and part of the group of investors who forked out $200,000 to purchase the building, said developers will turn the small hotel rooms into luxury apartments and turn what used to be the lobby and main entrance to the hotel into a high-end restaurant. Jordan said the investors also have big plans for the old ballroom.

“We’re looking to kind of create a great penthouse unit up there with a 13-foot-wide terrace that oversees Hay Street,” Jones said. “It should be two absolutely fantastic historic spaces that we’ll be very excited to introduce to Fayetteville.”

The work can’t come soon enough, as parts of the old building are falling into the street. Jones said it will cost $800,000 just to fix the windows.

While the interior will look brand new, Jones, who was born and raised in Fayetteville, said he has a personal commitment to make sure the outside keeps its historic look.

“My great-grandfather actually built the majority of the Prince Charles Hotel back in the 1920s, so I want to make sure it continues to shine and continues to be such a fantastic asset here in Fayetteville,” he said.

Construction will begin on the hotel in 2017, and it will take about a year to complete the renovations.
