Afghanistan refugees are coming to the Triangle soon, with Raleigh and Durham welcoming families, men and women.

Now, local organizations are stepping up to help.

"We want to be ready to deliver whatever's needed to accommodate them," said Faisal Khan, with Carolina Peace Center.

Cleaning supplies, baby clothes and furniture was donated within a week of the call for help, according to Khan.

"The message is that we are here to welcome the refugees and immigrants," said Khan.

Around 100 families are expected to move to Raleigh and Durham in the next two months.

"People that are going to be coming here ... just to come with the clothes on their back and to get a box of all the supplies is going to make them feel welcome. That's what I'm hoping," said Apex Councilwoman Audra Killingsworth.

Items are separated and boxed to meet each families specific needs. With 1,000 total people expected to call the Triangle their new home, Khan said donations are coming in from near and far.

"We also have an Amazon wishlist," said Khan. "So, people that are far, they can just order and it'll be delivered."

All this, for people they’ve never met.

"When people can come together [and] put their differences a side, have good intentions and help people out ... then we can create miracles, and this is a miracle," he said.
