Gas prices in North Carolina could increase in the coming weeks as a result of tensions with Iran.

The average price for gas in North Carolina is $2.47 a gallon. Experts with AAA said gas prices have gone up slowly this week.

According to N.C. Petroleum & Convenience Marketers Association, a trade organization composed of wholesale and retail petroleum marketers and convenience stores, oil is the biggest factor when it comes to higher gas prices.

As people react to events in the Middle East, the costs fluctuate, causing ups and downs at the pump.

Representatives from AAA said they hope any increases that happen are short-lived.

“When gas prices [increase], it sucks," said Michael Bradley, a Cary resident filling up his car Wednesday morning. "But I know we need it. We need to deal with it."
