LIST: As temperatures soar, schools again close due to AC problems
Apex Friendship High School, Millbrook High School and Wake Forest Elementary School are all closed Friday because of ongoing air conditioning problems.
In Wayne County, Rosewood High School dismissed at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, Apex Friendship dismissed only a couple of hours after school started. This is now the third day in a row the high school has either dismissed early or closed due to air conditioning issues.
Millbrook also dismissed students early on Thursday.
Both high schools decided to close Friday. They sent out the same message Friday morning.
"Our HVAC system has experienced a setback and is still not operating at full capacity," both high schools said on their websites. "As a result, our school will be closed today, Friday, September 8."
Both schools said evening activities will continue as scheduled, but all activities scheduled immediately after school are canceled.
Wake Forest Elementary is also closed Friday due to problems with their HVAC system.
All three schools said they hope to return to their normal schedules on Monday.
Other Wake County schools dealing with AC issues
Several Wake County schools have had a rough start to the school year. Less than one month into the school year, at least six Wake County schools have had to change their schedules because of air conditioning problems that made the schools too hot to inhabit.
Willow Spring High School was closed Thursday.
South Garner High School dismissed students at noon on Thursday.
Knightdale High School dismissed early on Wednesday.
"It was very hard to focus," said Janiyah Williams, a student at Knightdale High School. "It was just too hot to be in the classrooms. And then we couldn’t even go outside because it’s hot out here as well."
