Calypso Volunteer Fire Department and Duplin County emergency personnel evacuated employees and neighbors Wednesday afternoon from Southeastern Grain Company in Calypso after an external propane tank caught fire.
The fire was contained to a single tank and was quickly brought under control. Firefighters were keeping other nearby tanks wetted down while the remaining fuel in the tank burned away.
N.C. Highway 117 was briefly closed while firefighters were on scene.
The fire began just after noon. No injuries were reported.
