Our weekend getaway involves both road and rail. Destination: Bryson City west of Asheville. It's a good five hour plus drive from Raleigh but it'll be worth it. We're going to take the Polar Express once we get there. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad has a real life version of the animated classic film. We'll take an 8:00PM excursion run across the magical mountain landscape of Swain County. We'll meet Santa, sing some carols, drink hot chocolate and enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas. For accomodations we have chosen the Folkestone Inn, a beautifully restored mountain farmhouse known for its gourmet breakfasts featuring blueberry pancakes and Cartago coffee. On the way back to the Triangle we might take in a little skiing at Cataloochee. See you in the mountains!
