Fiesta del Pueblo feautures food and fun in downtown Raleigh

A great cultural experience is waiting for you this Sunday in downtown Raleigh. La Fiesta del Pueblo features arts, music and great food.

La Fiesta del Pueblo means a celebration of community. It is a tradition that began almost three decades ago.

"It was a group of Latinx folks from the community, from different parts of Latin America, (who) really wanted to celebrate the culture of our diversity," said Alexandra Landeros with El Pueblo, a Raleigh-based Latinx nonprofit organization.

Landeros says the event encompasses many parts of the lives of the Lantin Americans who have made the Triangle their home. "So it’s really a way to get together and celebrate through food, through art, through music, and that’s really where El Pueblo came from," she said.

Landeros says nonprofit organizations play a key role in the community, often as advocates for political change.

"Some of our communities are really being targeted, especially our LGBTQ+ community that we really want to celebrate that they are part of our community as well," she said.

Street vendors will line up on Raleigh’s Fayetteville Street offering the best of traditional Latin American foods, Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
