Kwanzaa celebrations planned in Cary, Durham this week

There are a couple of large Kwanzaa celebrations this week. The holiday celebrates African-American people and culture.

Cary will hold its 19th annual Kwanzaa Celebration at 5 p.m., Monday, at the Cary Arts Center. This year's event includes West African storyteller and drummer Braima Moiwa, Blues singer Logi Meachum and percussionist Atiba Rorie and Africa Unplugged. It's free and open to the public.

And Chuck Davis and the African American Dance Ensemble presents the 28th annual Kwanzaafest from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at the Durham Armory, 220 Foster St. There will be a variety of performances, crafts, food and more. Canned food will be collected. It's free.
