Kids, adults can create during Nasher summer program

At 10 a.m., Tuesdays, kids can take part in arts and crafts. At 6 p.m., Thursdays, there's a drop-in creative workshop for adults.

I mentioned it in my summer guide post, but I'll mention it again because this is a great, free, drop-in summer program for kids and adults.

The Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University offers its Nasher Creates series during the summer. At 10 a.m., Tuesdays, kids can take part in arts and crafts. At 6 p.m., two Thursdays a month, there's a drop-in creative workshop for adults (and a cash bar). The programs are designed for all ability levels (in other words, me and my not so artsy self, are welcome).

It started last week and continues through Aug. 20. There's no need to register. You can just stop by and take part.

This week, from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, local artist Chris Vitiello will lead a workshop for kids. Vitiello will run the adult program on Thursday, as well.

Also at the Nasher this summer:

In the middle of July, artist Odili Donald Odita will be at the Durham museum with studio assistants, painting a monumental wall mural at the Nasher. This will be a lot of fun for families to watch, I'm told. Stay tuned for details.

The museum's next free family day is Aug. 30.
