A judge ordered a mental evaluation for a man accused of causing the second lockdown on UNC's campus last fall.

It all unfolded in the Alpine Bagel shop last September.

Police say a gun was pointed at an employee.

Chapel Hill police arrested Mickel Deonte Harris, 27, in the 300 block of Formosa Lane in Chapel Hill.

Mickel Harris' attorney in Orange County Court filed a motion for a mental health evaluation. She told the judge it's been difficult to communicate with him about his case, and it would be in his best interest to have that evaluation.

Mickel Harris is charged with a felony of carrying a gun on educational property, and misdemeanors of assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats.

Warrants say he had a gun inside the Graham Student Union and threatened to kill a man at the Alpine Bagel Shop inside. It caused the second lockdown in two weeks for UNC students in the fall semester.

Harris bonded out of jail and has been in court a handful of times since September for his case.

Wednesday, his attorney made a new motion for an evaluation. She told the judge her request is based on triggers Harris has been having.

His attorney said she believes it's in Harris' best interest to have that evaluation and the judge agreed to order one.

Harris' next court date will be in April. He did not speak at all in court on Wednesday.
