Judge orders Chris Watts to pay $6M settlement to slain wife's family

A judge has ordered Chris Watts to pay more $6 million in damages to Shanann Watts' family following the August 2018 murders of Shanann and her two daughters.

According to 9 News in Denver, the judge signed off on a settlement that says Chris Watts will pay Frank and Sandra Rzucek, Shanann's parents, $6 million, representing $3 million for the three deaths and another $3 million for the stress and grief the murders caused them.

Chris Watts is currently serving life in prison for the crimes.

According to 9 News, Shanann's parents filed the civil lawsuit the same day the sentence was handed down.

Shanann grew up in Aberdeen, attended Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines and still has family members in North Carolina. Chris graduated from Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville in 2003. The couple married in Charlotte in 2012.

In November, Lifetime Movie Network announced a movie based on the Watts murders,"Chris Watts: Confessions of a Killer," will air on Jan. 25.
