Wreck involving Johnston County Sheriff's deputy car

A Johnston County sheriff’s deputy was responding to a “call for immediate assistance” from another law enforcement agency when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday.

The accident happened at the intersection of Country Store Road and Day Break Lane in Pine Level. A member of the N.C. Highway Patrol told WRAL News the deputy was traveling with lights and siren on and passed two cars, which yielded to him. A third car then made a left turn into his path.

The deputy lost control of his vehicle, crashing through a fence and colliding with a parked pickup truck attached to a trailer. The sheriff’s office car was deflected by the truck and struck a utility shed next to a mobile home.

The deputy was uninjured.

The woman driving the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Officials said she will not be charged.
