Johnston Co. 14-year-old dies after water rescue in Myrtle Beach

What was supposed to be a joyful family vacation at Myrtle Beach took a tragic turn.

Onlookers stood by as emergency responders there rescued 14-year-old Andrea Brown and her 15-year-old brother from the water.

She then spent days fighting for her life.

Both are from the Four Oaks area in Johnston County.

A man, who appears to be the father of Brown, shared an update on Facebook live with his followers the moment it happened.

"One of my twin girls. Send a prayer up for me," He said. "Took a little family vacation for spring break. Went to North Myrtle Beach, she started drowning. She had drowned. They pulled her out of the water she had no pulse."

Brown died Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Words of support flood the memory book on her online obituary. One friend remembered her as ‘sweet, kind, funny, and caring."

Another remembers her as "an intelligent young lady and an amazing cheerleader."

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses

A service will be held in Clayton Saturday afternoon.
