The daughter of a woman shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide says there were signs of trouble in her mom’s relationship.

Police found Officer Domingo Tavarez-Rodriguez and Yenitza Arroyo Torres dead on April 28 inside their home along Vandenberg Drive.

“It’s still shocking,” said Doris Rivera of her late mother. “She’s not here.”

Rivera says her mother’s partner served in the military, and that her mother had told her he suffered from PTSD and had a drinking problem.

“My mom’s an open book,” Rivera said of her mother. “So, I knew everything that was going on in the relationship, and [he] was like a very jealous man and controlling.”

Rivera said she didn’t have any indication her mom should fear for her safety. However, Rivera said she knew Torres called 911 about a domestic violence issue days before her death.

"I advised her to be very careful because I didn't want [him] to do anything to her, and then she just kind of like laughed it off and told me, ‘No, he's not going to do anything,’” Rivera said of her mom.

On April 28, officers went to the couple’s home to do a wellness check after Rodriguez didn’t show up for work.

Rivera said she knew something was wrong when her mom wasn’t picking up the phone on April 28. On that day, Rivera was in Puerto Rico. She said she typically called her mom on Fridays.

“One of Domingo’s supervisors got ahold of me and asked me if I knew where Domingo was,” Rivera said.

Rivera explained what she’ll miss most about her mom.

“Always with her smile and her outgoing personality,” Rivera said. “You can tell, when she goes into the room, that she just brightened up the room …

“I just want to remember her just happy."

Torres leaves behind Rivera and two other sons.

Torres' family has started a GoFundMe to pay for her funeral expenses.
