It's the last week for Megalodon

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' exhibit on the largest shark that ever lived is now in its last week.

Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived opened in February and runs through Sunday (that's Mother's Day). It traces the life of the Megalodon, which stretched as long as 60-feet-long. It vanished 2 million years ago. The exhibit connects the demise of Megalodon with the risks to today's sharks.

Kids will enjoy looking at fossils and modern shark specimens, along with a full-sized sculpture of Megalodon. There's also a special section with activities for toddlers or preschoolers and up.

Megalodon is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m Sunday, with the last entry at 4 p.m. every day. Tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for seniors and students and $4 kids ages 5 to 11.

On Friday, as part of downtown Raleigh's First Fridays, the museum will stay open later and feature its usual free B-movie, this one a mix of shark-related films It's rated PG (parental discretion advised). The museum's First Friday movies are generally good for a middle school crowd and up. As part of First Friday, all tickets to the exhibit will be $4 that night. The last tickets will be sold at 7 p.m.
