It's official: Durham is the South's tastiest town

Triangle foodies, rejoice! Durham has been named Tastiest Town in the South by Southern Living magazine.

The magazine recognized Durham for its down-to-earth appeal, locally-sourced produce and artisan restaurants for making the food scene so great. North Carolina was well-represented, with Asheville coming in at No. 3 and Greenville earning the No. 7 spot.

Durham beat out Charleston, New Orleans, Atlanta, Memphis and other big-ticket cities for first place.

Southern Living's Travel and Features editor Jennifer Cole said "The South has a new culinary capital – Durham, North Carolina. With beer and pizzas made from seasonally minded local ingredients, to pies and even coffee elevated to an art form, the city's artisans are taking Southern cooking to new heights."

Durham will be featured in the magazine's May issue, which will go on sale April 19.
