A Garner woman is recovering from a dog attack that occurred Wednesday on Weston Drive.

While she received medical treatment for her physical injuries, but mentally, she is still hurting.

Lois Reavis, 64, says while walking along Weston Drive towards a convenience store, a pitbull came from the opposite side of the street and pounced on her.

"Mentally, it's done a lot to me," Reavis said.

The attack left Reavis with visible injuries on her thigh.

"When he looked at me, I knew he was coming at me," Reavis said.

She says the large dog lunged over this fence as she was walking along a street she walks every day.

"When he clamped on my leg, I didn't know if he was going to let go or not, but I yelled so loud I think I scared him for a second," Reavis said.

She then quickly climbed onto a shed and stayed there for 10 minutes until a neighbor came to help.

"If he had gotten ahold of any other part of me, as little as I am, it probably would have killed me," Reavis said.

The attack happened just a few blocks away from a school bus stop.

Garner police say the dog is being quarantined inside the home while they investigate.

No charges have been filed against the dog's owners who live in the neighborhood.

"They should get some kind of charges because they're responsible for those dogs and evidently they're not doing as good of a job as they could taking care of them," Reavis said.

Now traumatized, Reavis told WRAL News she'll no longer take that route.

"It changed me a lot after I got a bit. It just changed me," Reavis said.

She went to the hospital to get a tetanus shot and undergo X-rays.

But unfortunately, she doesn't have medical insurance, which will cost her thousands of dollars in bills.
