Emergency officials were unable to resuscitate McGirt and she was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

McGirt’s body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death.

According to court records, McGirt had been arrested in connection with charges of failure to appear in court on charges of resisting a public officer, manufacturing and selling a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with the intent to sell and deliver heroin.

Deputies said the State Bureau of Investigation has been notified of the death and results of the death investigation will be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, which is standard protocol.
