Inmate escapes custody during altercation with Cumberland deputy

Edward Moore, of 5007 Birch Rd. in Fayetteville, escaped from custody Wednesday evening after assaulting a Cumberland County deputy, officials said. He was in custody for robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Authorities said the 39-year-old male inmate took a taser and stole a green Buick van during the incident, which happened at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Owen Drive in Fayetteville.

Authorities have since located the van on Fresno Driver off Santa Santa Fe Drive in Fayetteville. The taser was found in the vehicle. Police are actively searching for Moore, and said he is considered to be armed and dangerous. He is wearing a prison jumpsuit, and officers believe he is wearing handcuffs and leg shackles.
